While we do not really recommend carrying Small of Back (SOB), also known as 6 o’clock carry, due to some inherent dangers to the carrier’s spine in respect to pistol location, we here at Alien Gear do understand that some folks have trained carrying in this position. For these folks we do offer the Grip Tuck universal holster as an option (See it here).
A couple of points to go over in respect to ordering and running this rig.
Most SOB carry will require a more vertical draw angle than other carry options. This also means that, in order to comfortably draw at natural angle, most SOB holsters will orient the pistol with the muzzle of the pistol pointing away from their strong side. It also means that drawing the pistol requires a “Palm Out” draw. This is when the palm of your hand will be facing away from your body and the back of your hand will be against the body.
Here are some things to consider when ordering a holster for SOB carry.
- The more horizontal the draw angle, the higher the likelihood that you will be flagging your side and or leg when drawing the firearm.
- The pistol grip should be clear of the belt line.
- You will not have the ability to “look” the pistol back into the holster when holstering.
- You will have to purchase on “offside” holster. i.e. Right Handed shooters will need a Left handed holster and vice versa.
