OWB Holster Comparison Guide

   Alien Gear Holsters has looked to the future with their innovative holster designs for many years. This has been shown and proven with our various OWB (Outside the Waist Band) holster designs for a variety of applications!

   Our Cloak Mod OWB Paddle holster offers a simplistic and compact holster configuration that utilizes passive retention and either a Boltaron or injection molded shell depending on the firearm you choose to holster for. This holster configuration is offered for 600 different firearms at this time on our website. Due to the fact that the Cloak Mod OWB Paddle Holster does sit relatively far from the hip, we do not recommend using this holster for concealed carry as there may still be printing even with an over shirt or jacket. The Cloak Mod OWB Paddle Holster is also not compatible with lights/lasers or optics due to the design of the holster and positioning of the bolts.

   The Shapeshift OWB Paddle holster offers a more versatile carrying experience due to the added retention unit on the trigger guard, the thumb release on the back half of the shell and the ability to change your cant by simply pressing the release button on the Shapeshift Holster Mount and re-installing the holster shell at a more suitable angle for your carry needs. That being said, the Shapeshift does not allow for compatibility with lights or lasers due to the positioning of the retention devices. The Shapeshift Paddle Holster does sit farther from the body than the Cloak series holster but provides a stouter holster for those in need of a full shell OWB holster. 

   Photon was created to offer the most versatility in one package for an on the waistband holster available. You can carry the Photon in the OWB paddle configuration on your left or right side by simply switching the side your paddle sits on the holster shell! These holsters also come equip with an optic cut, compatibility with suppressor height sights and threaded barrels but they also come with the option of being light bearing or non-light bearing. While this holster is not designed with active retention, the passive retention on these holsters are designed to offer the best possible fitment and security for your daily life as a firearm carrier. Much like the Shapeshift series, the Photon holsters are made with an injection molded shell that offers full coverage of both sides of your firearm!

    For those looking for a holster that is used for outside the waistband but offers possible concealment with an over shirt or jacket, we have a series of holsters that utilize a belt loop style attachment method! 

     The Shapeshift OWB Slide holster sits tightly against the hip due to the design of the holster allowing for the belt loops to be attached at the sides of the holster. This holster uses the front half of the Shapeshift shell and a detachable trigger guard that safely covers both sides of the trigger. The shell attaches to the connector plate on the slide portion of the shell then is fastened into place by the connector lock and a twist lock that prevents holster from disassembling when in use. The shell is only connected on one side of the holster to allow for more flexibility of the holster on your body when in motion. These holsters utilize a cool vent Neoprene base that is breathable, durable, and cushioned with the customers comfort in mind. *Please note, this configuration will not allow for use of the included thumb release button.

   Our final comparison are the Cloak Belt holster and the Cloak Slide holster. These holsters offer very similar carry styles however, the difference stands in the material used for the holster bases. The Cloak Slide is our Cloak half shell attached to a leather base that can be ordered in black, brown, or tan. The Cloak Belt holster is a Cloak shell attached to a cool vent Neoprene base with a sweat guard that prevents the firearms slide from digging into the carriers skin. This Neoprene base is layered with an internal steel core and faced with a thermoplastic elastomer textured face in our "Alien Skin" pattern that provides additional grip on the firearm. The overall footprint of the slide holster is smaller than the belt holster by 1 and 1/2 inches. The Cloak Slide base measures at 6.5" end to end whereas the Cloak Belt holster measures 8" end to end. Both of these holsters utilize two rigid belt loops attached to the back of the base that come in either 1.5" or 1.75" belt height. Both of these holsters are designed with passive retention that can be used by tightening or loosening the screws on each corner of the shell. The holster is equip with injection molded pliable spacers that offers a buffer between the shell and the base.

   Please keep in mind that we always recommend applying clear nail polish or blue Loctite to the threads of your screws before using your Cloak series holsters to prevent the screws from being misplaced. In the event of a misplacement, all of our Cloak holsters come with a hardware pack that contains spare screws of various sizes, additional spacers to match the various size screws, an offset washer, a propel nut, and an Allen key.
