Swivel Drop Leg holsters were initially developed for our Rapid Force Duty Holsters. We wanted to bring our Cloak Series and our ShapeShift Series holsters into the Swivel Drop Leg line, too. However, the offerings were set specifically to ensure customers would not have to spend a lot of time and effort changing up the Cloak Mod Swivel Drop to fit ShapeShift. This article addresses instances where a user may have a firearm in ShapeShift and another available only in Cloak. In essence, it would be recommended to run two Swivel Drop Leg holsters, one for each series.
Trying to use a single Swivel Drop Leg for both systems is not recommended because the user would have to disassemble the Cloak Mod backer each time a change between systems is needed. The Cloak Mod backer contains a spring steel flex plate that is very sharp, which was the primary driver for not having a Cloak Mod Swivel Drop Leg Expansion, like we do with ShapeShift. Additionally, the assembly is difficult enough to cause some headache in making changes.
While the Swivel Drop Leg thigh plate, ride height bars and Locking Belt Slide (that attaches to the belt) are the same, the holster part is different. For the ShapeShift Swivel Drop Leg, we have the thigh plate attached to an Swivel Drop Adapter which holds the ShapeShift Holster Mount.
For Cloak Mod Swivel Drop, we use the QDS system from Rapid Force, so it goes thigh plate> QDS receiver > QDS Attachment> Swivel Drop Adapter > Cloak Mod backer. Below has a better view of the Cloak Mod assembly. Please be advised that the green Cloak Mod backer is a non-standard part.
The intent was to first make sure that there was a way to remove the holster shell parts from the thigh plate. With ShapeShift, it has its own disconnect system so it didn't make sense to add additional thickness with a secondary disconnect system. Cloak Series did not have any disconnect system before Swivel Drop Leg.
If a Cloak Mod Swivel Drop Leg is purchased and a ShapeShift Shell is wanted to be used, the Cloak Mod backer would need to be disassembled to access the screws that hold the Swivel Drop Adapter. From there, the QDS Attachment would need to be removed from the Adapter and attached to the ShapeShift Holster Mount. That assembly would then be screwed to the thigh plate. The assembly is not convenient, but it is technically doable.
